"Nature is one of my greatest teachers! She has been a faithful guide as I traverse the many trials of life. Unveiling the continual cycles of birth, death and regeneration, she shows me ways to look at the many relationships I have forged within the great world. My art and my written words reveal the wisdom she imparts." Heather McBogg

About the Artist and Author Heather McBogg
Born and raised in the beautiful state of Colorado, Heather McBogg has been creating art as long as she can remember. As a child her beloved granny, who was also an artist, would create whimsical drawings for she and her sister, telling stories about her life as she went. Growing up surrounded by this creativity, Heather was naturally attracted to the arts herself.
Heather attended Metropolitan State College in Denver, receiving her BFA in Art Education, with an emphasis in drawing. She taught middle school art for 12 years, leaving to spend time with her family and focus on her own art making endeavors.
Heather joined the incredible Denver artist Marie EVB Gibbons, as part of Mud Club, where she began to fine tune her skills with clay. Though her beloved mentor has passed, Heather remains part of the incredible group of women Marie joined together. They continue to show their clay works yearly in memory of their friend and mentor.
Recently, Heather wrote a book, Seed to Seedling: Growing in the Darkness, in memory of her beloved husband of 21 years, who died in 2021. It features a collection of poetry, a short story about the germination process of a seed in relation to the process of growing in grief, and prose relaying the wisdom she has collected along her journey thus far.
Heather's art and writing have been incredible tools for self expression and healing throughout her life.

Creating: From Studio to Gallery

"This wisdom came from the discovery of strength, strength to wilt and come back into stature."
Seed to Seedling: Growing in the Darkness
A Journey Through the Early Years of Grief
Growing in the darkness of grief, Heather describes her journey using the germination process of a seed. Still in the early years of grief, she feels she is only a small seedling and concludes her story with the seedling taking in the world above the dark soil. Curiously, she awaits the next section of her journey.

Excerpt from Seed to Seedling: Growing in the Darkness
"The suicide of my late husband propelled me into the world of writing. Writing became one of the ways I could process the ever-changing tides of emotions and experiences that came with my grief. Often feeling isolated and alone, despite being surrounded by friends and family, I discovered the incredible healing power of nature, and it shows up in my writing and works of art. As an artist, art educator, writer, and lifelong student of the mind and body, my deepest desire is to witness other grievers on their journeys and create works that allow them to feel seen."
